Check-in at the Sun Country Tours office in either Bend or Sunriver 20-30 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time to complete any unsigned waivers and get outfitted with the proper gear. From there our shuttle will take you on a 15-20 minute ride from Bend to the Aspen launch site (30 min. from Sunriver), just downstream of Dillon Falls, on the Upper Deschutes River.

Once you have arrived at the put-in, your guide will go through safety protocols, paddling techniques, and the best practices for maneuvering through swift water. Then it’s time to throw on your life jacket and helmet, grab a paddle, and hit the water in your guided raft!

Your float begins on a gentle stretch of river with a mix of calming flat water and playful ripples through class 1 & 2 rapids. This section provides the perfect opportunity to take in the quintessential Central Oregon landscape of lava flows, towering Ponderosa pines, Junipers, and Osprey nests as your guide shares their knowledge of the region’s natural history. 

Before taking on the most memorable splashes of your trip, you’ll pull your boat aside into Big Eddy, and walk down the shore to scout the rapids ahead. Your guide will discuss the best strategy for navigating the four distinct class 3 rapids. Then it’s time to get wet! Hop back in your boat and paddle hard, because after that you can expect a few smaller, rolling rapids before reaching calm waters again.

The rafting portion of your trip will end at the Lava Island take-out right before the river drops over Lava Island Falls, and where the shuttle will pick up to transport you back to Bend or Sunriver.

NO alcohol before or during the trip. 

General Seating Rafts are booked by seat with a maximum of 7 paddlers per boat. Your boat may include guests or parties from different households/travel groups. Private Rafts are offered at a base price and include up to 7 seats, with a minimum of 2 paddling adults required per raft. If you have more than 7 people in your party, you will need to book an additional raft. Youth (ages 6-12) must be accompanied by at least 2 paddling adults (13+) on both General Seating and Private trips.

EARLY & LATE SEASON PRICING: (Feb 1 - June 12) & (Sept 2 - Sep 29) Advanced booking of more than 7 days in advance will get you our lowest rates of the season. Less than 7 days before your trip will give you our standard early season rates.

Please note that we only offer a limited number of trip times during the early and late parts of the season. Total trip time from Bend, including both river time and transportation, is 2 hours; from Sunriver it is 3 hours.

BEND DEPARTURES:

Sun Country Tours office is the pick-up & drop-off location for all rafting trips with a Bend departure. The office is located at 531 SW 13th St, Bend, OR 97702, on the westside of town.

SUNRIVER DEPARTURES:

Pick-up for Big Eddy Thriller trips with a Sunriver departure are based out of the Sun Country Tours Sunriver store and offices, located at 57080 Abbott Dr. (Bldg 26), Sunriver, OR 97707, in the Sunriver Village Mall. Once you have pulled into the Sunriver Village complex, the SCT offices and parking can be found back behind the Sunriver Country Store.

• One expertly trained and certified rafting guide per raft
• Professional-grade river raft, paddle, PFD (Personal Flotation Device) and helmet*
• Instruction on paddling basics, maneuvering through rapids, and safety procedures before getting on the river
• Transportation to and from the river from either our Bend or Sunriver office
• Interpretive tour covering the natural history and geology of the region

*PFD and helmet are required to be worn by all guests. Splash jacket/gear available upon request.

For your safety, it is important that everyone in your party is wearing appropriate river footwear. NO BARE FEET OR FLIP FLOPS ALLOWED. Those without proper footwear will not be permitted on the raft and/or may be asked to purchase water shoes prior to boarding (for sale on-site).

Acceptable shoes or sandals include:

• Secure strap-on sandals that fasten around your ankle (crocs are acceptable as long as they have a sport strap behind the ankle)
• Water socks or water shoes with a sturdy sole
• Old tennis shoes that can get wet

Other Recommended Items include:

• Swimsuit or clothing that can get wet
• Waterproof pouch for essential valuables (i.e. keys or phone)
• Tether or lanyard for your sunglasses and waterproof bags
