Maupin, Oregon

Maupin, Oregon is a small town located south of the Columbia River in Northern Oregon. Located on Highway 197, it is about 90 miles north of Bend, allowing for an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Maupin is located in a canyon and the Lower Deschutes River runs straight through it. There are several important access points to the river located in the town, providing an ideal spot for an exciting whitewater rafting tour.

A gathering point for tourism in Maupin is the Oasis Resort and Café, which can provide food and lodging for the active tourist. Maupin was founded (in a sense) in 1872 when Commodore Perry Maupin established a ferry across the Deschutes River in order to facilitate movement along the Oregon Trail, and the town was eventually built in order to provide a base for the railroads that were going to be built along the Deschutes Canyon.

Maupin is located amidst a unique landscape of river canyons and valleys. Raft tours take you through this incredible scenery, passing through towering canyons and beautiful hilly vistas. Numerous rapids provide for an exciting trip through this area, with some of the best known rapids being Boxcar and Oakland Springs rapids, which are class 4 rapids (out of 6). The number of fun, manageable rapids located on the river provide for an excellent all-day trip. Sun Country Tours has been providing exhilarating raft trips through this section of the Lower Deschutes River.
